Advanced Energy Senior Scientist David J. Christie Elected To Society Of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) Board of Directors

FORT COLLINS, Colo., April 26, 2005— Advanced Energy Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS) today announced that Senior Scientist David J. Christie, Ph.D., (age 48) has been elected to the board of directors of the Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC), effective Apr. 24. SVC is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the development, application and advancement of vacuum coating and related technologies. Its mission is to foster technical excellence by providing a global forum in which it informs and educates its members and the public on all aspects of vacuum coating. Dr. Christie presented his first SVC Technical Conference paper in 1996 and has been a regular conference participant since 2000.

“AE has a rich history of technology and thought leadership in the vacuum industry, and we’re very proud to have one of our senior scientific staff elected to the SVC’s board of directors,” said C. Stephen Rhoades, Advanced Energy’s executive vice president, products and operations. “Dave is a well recognized scientist who can make a unique contribution to the SVC because of his expertise in high power, plasma processing, thin film processes and modeling.”

With Advanced Energy since 1995, Dr. Christie is tasked with developing innovative power conversion technology for plasma processes. His research focuses on pulsed power for plasmas, the modeling of thin film deposition processes and the use of advanced power conversion and control systems to enable new process technologies. Prior to joining Advanced Energy, he served at Directed Energy, Inc. as a systems product manager; at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a group leader; and at General Motors as a project engineer.

Dr. Christie holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Colorado State University, a master’s of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Kettering University. He has been awarded six patents, including one for high power pulsed magnetron sputtering (HPPMS), a pulsed power supply that features arc handling capabilities. He has published or presented over 20 papers on plasma power supplies and thin film processes in scientific and technical journals or at international conferences.
