Advanced Energy Names Donsung (Robert) Kim President of Advanced Energy Korea

Appointment aimed at expanding business in growing Asian markets

FORT COLLINS, Colo., June 24, 2003—Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS) today announced that it has named Donsung (Robert) Kim president of Advanced Energy Korea. Kim, who served as president and CEO of Lam Research Korea and executive managing director of Samsung Electronics Co. before joining AE, has 15 years of high-level experience in the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment industries. Kim will drive broadening AE Korea’s current market presence and expanding product offerings into new markets, while sustaining leading market share in most of the company’s existing markets.

Commenting on Kim’s appointment, AE Chairman and CEO Doug Schatz stated, “Robert’s experience in the semiconductor arena is a huge asset in meeting our objectives in Korea. His experience, combined with the relationships he has cultivated over the years, will be invaluable to his efforts in expanding AE’s presence in Korea—a region where AE has been established for more than five years and has achieved success in our primary markets.”

Kim will direct the entire AE Korea organization, overseeing all sales and service entities for the flow, power, thermal, source and instrumentation product lines. In addition, Kim will oversee AE Korea’s Class 1000 cleanroom and diversified business development efforts throughout the country.

Kim earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from California State Polytechnic University. In 2000, he completed the CEO program at Korea University, which focused on the semiconductor industry. Kim holds 13 patents, and is the co-inventor of an additional nine patents—all from the United States.
