Advanced Energy Revises Second Quarter Outlook

Fort Collins, Colorado (May 10, 2001)—Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS) today announced revisions to the second quarter outlook. Advanced Energy is an industry-leading provider of critical technology solutions for the manufacture of semiconductors, data storage products, and flat panel displays.

"We are operating in an extremely volatile environment of limited visibility, low order volumes and order cancellations," said Doug Schatz, chairman and chief executive officer. "Given the sales and order activity to date, we have revised our expectations for the 2001 second quarter."

"We now expect second quarter revenues to be lower than our 2001 first quarter revenues of $74.7 million by as much as 35 percent. Although we have taken aggressive action to reduce costs in the past few months, this lower revenue base does not support our model for profitability in the second quarter," said Mr. Schatz.

The company will explore further cost reduction actions as appropriate, and in relation to the continued evaluation of revenue forecasts and order trends. Advanced Energy will report second quarter results on Thursday, July 12, 2001. Conference Call Management will host a conference call today, May 10, 2001 at 10:00 am Eastern time to discuss this press release. You may access this conference call by dialing 888-792-1079.
